Congratulations, Philadelphia Democratic Voters

Vanessa Lowery Brown, who represents parts of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania’s state legislature, goes on trial in September on charges she took a $4000 bribe from an undercover informant in a sting operation that has netted four other members of the state legislature (so far), two of whom pleaded guilty before their cases went to trial, and one local judge. Every indication is that she, like the others, not only took the money but encouraged the government operative to offer it.

On Tuesday Brown ran for the Democratic nomination for her own seat in a district where the Democratic nomination is tantamount to election.

She won.

Way to go, Philadelphia Democrats.

Ms. Brown has taken a page out of the Marion Barry political play book…..you can lead a sheep to the voting booth, if you promise them a drink.

This one was actually a little dicey to write. Because of Brown’s legal problem, people sensed her vulnerability and came crawling out of the woodwork to run against her – five people in all. As a result, Brown received “only” 36% of the vote – more than Trump averaged through the first 25 or so primaries – but with so many candidates in the race, being rejected by nearly two out of every three voters was still enough to enable her to win.
