The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Last week the rock & roll hall of fame announced nominees for its 2018 class and they included faces old and new and mostly tired and undeserving.

The complete list:

  • Bon Jovi
  • Kate Bush
  • The Cars
  • Depeche Mode
  • Dire Straits
  • Eurythmics
  • J Geils Band
  • Judas Priest
  • LL Cool J
  • The MCs
  • The Meters
  • Moody Blues
  • Radiohead
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
  • Nina Simone
  • Sister Rosetta Tharp
  • Link Wray
  • The Zombies

There are a few acts on this list that The Curmdugeon likes – Kate Bush, Dire Straits, the Eurythmics a little – but as much as he likes them he’s not sure they’re hall-worthy. Okay, maybe Dire Straits and the Cars are deserving, but it’s a stretch, as are the Moody Blues, but the others?

LL Cool J? Seriously?

The Zombies?

Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharp are rock performers?

But what really frosts The Curmudgeon’s shorts is the omission…

Yet again…

The absolute failure to at least consider the artistic merits of…

The one…

The only…

Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.

Come on! Rufus and Chaka Khan! You know how I feel
About Chaka. “Ain’t Nobody” and “Through the Fire” alone deserve induction. To say nothing of “Tell me Something Good.”

At least from this perspective, few good or great – songs do not a hall-of-famer make. “Billy don’t be a hero…”
