“Mr. Jones, What Do You Mean You Didn’t Complete the Assignment?”

That kind of phrase may carry new weight very soon in the Tamaqua Area School District (in Schuylkill County Pennsylvania, serving no town you’ve ever heard of), where the board of education recently approved, by a unanimous vote, a new policy to permit teachers, administrators, and staff members in their schools to carry guns on them at school.

“Are you quite sure you didn’t bring enough to share with the entire class?”

Loaded guns.

Loaded with bullets.

Real bullets.

And when they do, students may soon find themselves feeling a need to respond very differently to phrases like “What do you mean you didn’t complete the assignment?”, “I said I want silence in this classroom right away, people,” and “Are you sure you really want to question the grade I gave you on that assignment?”
